Some feelings are too heavy to say out loud. But they find their way onto the page. For Brazilian author and singer-songwriter Cris Casagrande, that act of writing became a lifeline, a way to capture emotions that linger long after people have left our lives. Now, Casagrande is bringing those reflections to readers in the United States with her first poetry collection in English, Letters to Somebody (I Used to Know), published by WeBook Publishing. The book will officially launch during this year’s edition of the WeBook Author Panel, considered a landmark celebration of Brazilian literature on the West and East Coasts.
This year, the event will happen on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Barnes & Noble The Grove in Los Angeles, and on Thursday, September 11, at the Consulate General of Brazil in New York City.
Letters to Somebody (I Used to Know) is a heartfelt collection of poems and personal reflections inspired by the words left unsaid. The letters written but never sent, the conversations that remained locked inside, and the longing for closure we all carry. With striking honesty and emotional depth, Casagrande writes to friends, almost lovers, and even to her past self, inviting readers to step into the intimate spaces where feelings often go unspoken.
“I’ve always kept my unspoken words on paper,” Cris says. “Some people scream their feelings; I write mine. This book is for anyone who’s ever felt something so strongly but couldn’t find the courage—or the right moment—to say it.”
Although this is her first poetry book in English, Casagrande is no stranger to storytelling. She is already beloved in Brazil for her YA romantic comedy trilogy Querida Alice, Carolina, and Para Cada Nome, Uma História. A graduate in Linguistics and Literature, she has also built a career as a singer-songwriter, blending her love of words and music into deeply personal art. With this latest work, she turns her focus inward, giving shape to the quiet yet powerful act of writing as a tool for healing, growth, and connection.
WeBook Publishing, a Latina-founded publishing house committed to amplifying diverse voices and bridging Brazilian and U.S. literary markets, will host the launch. Alongside Casagrande, the event will also celebrate the release of Amor em Sagitário by Ana Silvani, author and founder of WeBook, Impost-HER Syndrome by Brazilian TV host Rafa Brites, and Who She Think She Is? by businesswoman Vivi Duarte. In LA, the afternoon will open with a red carpet and feature a panel discussion moderated by journalist Cleide Clock, followed by a book signing where readers can meet the authors. In New York, speaker Nathi Narciso moderates the panel, followed by a book signing and photo-op.
For Cris Casagrande, this launch marks more than just a book release; it is an invitation to share in the emotions we often leave behind. With Letters to Somebody (I Used to Know), she reminds us that even when our words remain unspoken, they still carry meaning, memory, and truth. This September, Los Angeles and New York readers will be among the first to experience her voice live, personal, and unfiltered.
